Bio - Executive Housekeeper

PAT BAIRD
Executive Housekeeper

Pat Baird, a native of Fairview, New Jersey, spent the first ten years of her career as a bookkeeper. From crunching numbers, to the daily spring-cleaning and polishing of The Peabody Orlando's 891 guestrooms, 57,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, three restaurants and thousands of square feet of public areas, Baird now is a keeper of books, beds and baths, and has prepared the hotel's magnificent Presidential Suites for visiting heads of state, prime ministers, princes and presidents, as well as Hollywood's most celebrated movie stars and directors. Her training as a bookkeeper comes in very handy for the top-level management position she now holds as executive housekeeper for The Peabody Orlando.

Baird began her hotel career at The Peabody Orlando in 1986 as a linen room attendant and quickly rose through the ranks, culminating in her being appointed executive housekeeper in September, 1990.

It takes hundreds of highly-trained room attendants to keep The Peabody Orlando looking sparklingly clean, and as new as the day the hotel opened back in November, 1986. 75% of Baird's room attendants and all supervisors in Baird's department have completed a certification process conducted by the Educational Institute of AH&MA. The process requires a six-week, intensive, training course on technical and service issues, which is followed by a graded examination. Not one of Baird's room attendants has scored less than 95% on their certification.

The Peabody Orlando, with its 57,000 sq. ft. of function space, stately public areas, champagne colored marble, art and artifacts, not to mention The Peabody Duck Fountain, and The Peabody Orlando Ducks, could be seen as a challenge to most executive housekeepers. To Baird, however, this is a golden opportunity for her crew to shine as bright as the hotel they clean and polish each day.

"Our public area attendants keep The Peabody Duck Fountain scrupulously clean. And, yes, it's tough to clean up after wild animals, which The Peabody Orlando Ducks are, but our system works, and it works well," said Baird.

Baird, a consummate leader and motivator, was named Manager of the Year 2000 by The Peabody Orlando.

Baird lives in Orlando, Florida, with most of her family, who moved down from New Jersey
