PEABODY HOTELS’ BARS – HOT & TRENDY IN ORLANDO, MEMPHIS & LITTLE ROCK

One of the hottest trends in today’s hotel industry is the soaring popularity of hotel bars. Don’t groan in derision. Today’s hotel bars are not your daddy’s or granddaddy’s hotel bars. Nowhere is this trend more apparent than in the bars of Peabody Hotels in Orlando, Memphis and Little Rock.

While some may hanker for the polished oak, mirrors and brass of bars of the past, today’s hotel bars are designed to create a feeling of total comfort, intimacy and relaxation. They are upscale, exude modern, sleek, clean lines, and provide ultra-comfortable seating, compelling artwork and artful ambient lighting.

Why the resurgence of hotel bars? Hotel bars have wised up to the importance of providing their guests really comfortable seating. Armchairs and sofas that hug and envelope the body make for exquisite relaxation after a tough day on the convention floor or at the boardroom table. Wireless Internet is available in the public areas of most upscale, luxury hotels today. That motivates guests to congregate in hotel bars, laptops powered up and connected, cell phones at the ready. Yet, they feel an ambient “togetherness” with those around them. This is the perfect time and place for a Martini and some food. It simply makes good business sense for hotels to recognize that their bars are serious centers for social interface, and sources for revenue generation.

“It’s no secret that Americans have become much more sophisticated in their choice of leisure or business entertainment and dining,” said David Adelson, director of sales and marketing for The Peabody Orlando. “Since many of our guests are business executives or association, medical, pharmaceutical professionals, our Peabody bars offer a casual, comfortable place to eat and drink where everyone can relax as they make business deals or discuss the intricacies of scientific research and development.”

The Lobby Bar, Mallards Bar and Capriccio Grill Bar at The Peabody Orlando feature “Peabody Elite Spirits,” a menu of single malt and other whiskeys of the world, such as the Glenlivet Cellar Collection 1972, McCallan 25 Year; vodkas from Stoli Elit, Russia, and tequilas from Don Julio and Patron Platinum.

These bars have built up quite a reputation for their Peabody Signature Martinis. Some of the most popular are The Duck March, (especially when the March of The Peabody Ducks is taking place), Duck Fountain Blue, Mallards Mandarin and Skyy Diving Duck (made with Skyy 90, and Licor-43). Premium beers and wines are also favorites with guests and visitors. Comprehensive appetizer menus are available, and bar guests also can select menu items from any of the hotel’s three restaurants: Dux, Capriccio Grill and the B-Line Diner.

Of course, “Today, we find that our guests enjoy our hotel bars’ unique ambience, with the added convenience and pleasure of enjoying exquisite foods, artistically presented, to complement their Martini or classic cocktail,” said Craig Smith, director of sales and marketing for The Peabody Memphis.

One of the nation’s most celebrated bars, The Lobby Bar, is located in the majestic lobby of The Peabody Memphis. Historian David Cohn wrote back in 1935: “The Mississippi Delta begins in the lobby of The Peabody Hotel and ends on Catfish Row in Vicksburg. The Peabody is the Paris Ritz, the Cairo Shepheard, the London Savoy of this section. If you stand near the fountain in the middle of the lobby…ultimately you will see everybody who is anybody.”

Hotel guests are rarely disappointed. There’s a constant procession of celebs stopping off at the massive wood-carved Lobby Bar. They’re still drinking classic cocktails like Brandy Alexander and Singapore Sling, but mostly they now order from the Martini specials menu. Among the most popular are Russian Kiss, Girl Scout Cookie, and The Peabody Cosmo.

The Corner Bar at The Peabody Memphis has become the social epicenter for local Memphians who delight in Martini specials such as the Blue Suede Shoes and the Yin Yang. The Light Bites bar menu offers Mussels alla Diavola or Blanco, Ahi Tuna Tartar, Fried Ravioli and Peabody Crab Cakes. More substantial menu items also are available, including, but not limited to, Linguini Juliette, Wild Mushroom Ravioli, Fettuccini Alfredo and Smoked Chicken Cannelloni.

“Thanks to the vision and creative expertise of our hotel group’s food and beverage directors, and the industry as a whole, our hotel bars have made a strong come-back from the staid, barren watering holes of yesteryear,” said Todd Scholl, director of food and beverage for The Peabody Little Rock. “Our guests are seriously into ordering premium brands of liquor, wine and beer.”

Among the Little Rock hotel’s Martinis are the Four Diamond, The Dirty Duck, the Drake Mallard and the Martini Flight, which features the bartender’s choice of three mini Martinis. Menu items include Grilled Chicken Breast Panini, Pizza Salsicce, Quesadilla, Antipasto Misto, Crabcakes and Calamari. More substantial menu items are available through the hotel’s Capriccio Grill Italian Steakhouse.

Cheers!
